About DRP Initiative

Overview
Disability Rights Protection Initiative (DRP) is one of the leading non-profit legal and advocacy organizations registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Federal Republic of Nigeria, with registration number 167875. DRP aims to advocate and defend the legal rights of persons with disabilities in Nigeria. The organization is committed to protecting, assisting, and representing the community of persons with disabilities, including the marginalized women and people with physical, visual, mental, hearing and intellectual disabilities, among other vulnerable groups in Nigeria whose civil or fundamental human rights have been violated or are under threat of being violated.
What We Want to Achieve

As a human rights organization, DRP uniquely seeks to achieve and consolidate unprecedented improvement in the welfare of persons with disabilities. Part of our strategy is to identify and dismantle barriers between the disabled and access to justice, health care, education, employment, emergency planning, access to private and public facilities and services, assistive technology, transportation, housing, and equal opportunities, among others. To achieve its aim and objectives, DRP partners with a broad network of outfits representing the full spectrum of disabilities – including but not limited to mobility, sensory and cognitive.
How We Work
DRP employs diverse tools, including litigation, advocacy, structured negotiation, community education, and social media, to confront systems and practices that discriminate against persons with disabilities in Nigeria. As part of its mandate to promote equal rights to justice, DRP advocates for an inclusive society and cares for the disabled in Nigeria.
